Inception

The Amitabha Buddhist Society of U.S.A. was founded by Venerable Master Chin Kung in 1989 to advocate the Pure Land Study of Buddhism. It is a non-profit organization operated entirely by volunteers with funds one hundred percent donated by people all over the world.

The Pure Land Study is a method of cultivation introduced and taught by Shakyamuni Buddha twenty-five hundred years ago for people who wish to attain Buddhahood within one lifetime. It is the fastest and easiest way for anyone who wishes to transform this life's pain, suffering, misery and misfortune into a life of happiness, fulfillment and prosperity with direction and purpose. Furthermore, to achieve peace and harmony among all people, all beings and the environment in the universe without bias against those of different race, nationality and religion. The Pure Land Study teaches the Law of cause and effect, explains the cycle of transmigration, teaches The Five Sutras and One Commentary of Amitabha Buddha, and introduces the Pure Land of Amitabha in detail. Of all methods of cultivation, Pure Land Study uses the smallest number of sutras and commentaries, and requires the least amount of time. Although it is the easiest cultivation method, it results in incredible achievements.

The Amitabha Buddhist Society of U.S.A. devotes its full effort to introducing the principles of Pure Land Study and the teachings of Amitabha (concentrating primarily on The Infinite Life Sutra) to all people. The operation includes:

  1. Conducting group meditation sessions.
  2. Free distribution of multi-language materials, including Books, DVDs, and CDs, to all interested people throughout the world, with the majority in USA.
  3. Television broadcasting of the lectures given by Venerable Master Chin Kung.
